Mu Okonkwo (he/him) is a dynamic and passionate leader, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to his role as the Entrepreneur in Residence at Bridgemakers MN. With a diverse and compelling background, Mu is committed to guiding the next generation of youth towards realizing their full potential.
Originally from Nigeria, Mu’s journey is a testament to resilience, faith, and an unyielding drive for excellence. He moved to the USA in 2014, having been offered a college basketball scholarship, despite never having played the sport before. This extraordinary leap, coupled with his natural talent and determination, led him to a professional basketball career across major European leagues, including France, Sweden, Portugal, and Spain.
Mu is a graduate of Upper Iowa University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Exercise Sports Science, and Biology. His academic background, combined with his professional experiences, equips him with a unique perspective and a robust skill set that he brings to his entrepreneurial ventures and mentorship roles.
Beyond his athletic and academic achievements, Mu is a seasoned entrepreneur and innovator. He co-founded SitEat, a pioneering restaurant tech startup in Africa, aimed at revolutionizing the food industry through technology. As the Chief Designer for Dieu Le Saint Bespoke Clothing, Mu brings a unique blend of creativity and business acumen to the fashion industry. Additionally, he excels in his role as the Senior Business Development and Partnerships Lead for BetterYou, where he strategically drives growth and partnerships.
Mu’s professional journey is deeply rooted in his faith. A devoted Christian, Mu’s belief in God is the foundation from which all aspects of his life flow. This faith inspires his commitment to helping others, particularly the youth, through coaching and mentorship. He believes in empowering the next generation to reach their highest potential, providing them with the tools and guidance necessary for success.
As a father to two beautiful girls, Mette and Mayzie-Grace, Mu understands the importance of nurturing and supporting young minds. His dedication to his family mirrors his commitment to the Bridgemakers community, where he plays a crucial role in the Bridge 2 Success Entrepreneurship Program.
Outside of his professional and mentoring roles, Mu enjoys watching TV, playing soccer and basketball, and leading church small groups. He also loves playing chess, finding it a perfect way to sharpen his strategic thinking and relax. His multifaceted interests and talents make him a relatable and inspiring figure to the youth he mentors.
